i have an immense respect for the artists that have paved the way for the ones like me who follow … artists like charlie lucas, lonnie holley, thornton dial, and joe minter. they are the greats, who create only for the simple need to create … a God-given desire from within to be expressive.

what i do is not abstract, not naive, and not contemporary. i am a collector of things trashed, mostly steel, and i enjoy the process of making something powerful and new from the discarded.

the truth is, there's nothing special about welding metal to metal or nailing tin to barn wood, but i enjoy my reaction to the images i produce.

what i like best about what i do is being able to envision an image and then create it … and i am happiest when what i've made is the same as what i saw in my mind.

i believe that the purpose of art is to generate a feeling; my own response is always exciting because the ideas behind the images are an expression of my feelings and beliefs, and the pieces themselves are a tangible reflection of these ideas.
