Bio
Deborah Gold's passion for painting began at a very early age. She remembers being seven years old and painting all the time. By ninth grade, she had sold her first still life painting.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Gold attended the New York High School of Art and Design, and continued her art training in visual arts at New York City Community College and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She also studied oil painting at the Arts Student League of New York where she was encouraged to go outside and paint plein-air in New York. She began showing her work in various group shows while working as a fashion illustrator.
Enraptured by the beauty of Northern New Mexico, Gold settled in Santa Fe in 1989, launched her full-time career as a painter, and opened her own studio gallery on Canyon Road the following year where her enthusiasm and talent have been well-received. Over the last 15 years, she has shown her work in more than 20 exhibitions. The enduring appeal of her work tends to reflect a harmonious and joyful mood appreciated by her collectors all over the world.
Artist Statement
Gold paints forms with colors, replacing firm outlines and smooth surfaces with patches of color and thick impastos. She paints the essential character of what she sees, stressing freshness of tonal modeling to produce velvety textures, clarity of high key effects, and spontaneity in brush and knife strokes.
